Dr. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science degree and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1958-1962. In 1963, he completed his rotating internship at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in 1963. From 1965-1966 he served as Assistant Resident Internal Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Johnson completed his Ophthalmology residency, at North Carolina Memorial Hospital (UNC) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and McPherson EENT Hospital in Durham, South Carolina.

Dr. Johnson is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons & American Academy of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology, and a member of the Kentucky Medial Association, American Medical Association, McCracken County Medical Society and American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Johnson and his wife, Suellen, are the parents of four children and three grandchildren. He enjoys traveling, jogging and summer mission work in his spare time.
